Paymentology

Investment Announced May 2026

Profile

Paymentology is a cloud-native global issuer processor providing the core technology that banks, fintechs, and digital banks need to issue and process payment cards at scale. Operating across ~70 countries and serving 400+ clients across Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia Pacific, Paymentology's API-first platform enables clients to launch virtual, prepaid, debit, and multi-currency card programmes with the speed and configurability. This capability is particularly valuable in emerging markets, where the pace of digital banking adoption is outstripping the capabilities of incumbent processing infrastructure. Beyond core processing, the business offers tokenisation, programme management, and BIN sponsorship services, and has recently launched credit card processing. By powering the fintechs and digital banks that serve unbanked and underbanked populations across emerging markets, Paymentology is a meaningful enabler of financial inclusion - delivering commercial scale and development impact in equal measure.

Issuer Processing

In 2014, Paymentology's founders looked at the payments industry and saw a problem worth solving: issuer processing was slow, limited, and had barely changed in decades. They built the first cloud-native issuer processing platform to fix it, establishing Paymentology as an early technology pioneer in modern payments.

In 2021, Paymentology joined forces with Tutuka, a processor with more than 23 years of large-scale programme experience and operations across 25+ countries. The combination brought together advanced multi-cloud platform technology, deep operational expertise and unmatched global reach. Today, 500+ payments experts support transactions across 65+ countries and 14 time zones, every hour of every day.

Issuer processing has lagged behind acquiring in terms of both innovation and technology adoption for years. That gap is closing, and Paymentology is well placed to help it close faster.

Digital banks, traditional banks and fintechs are under pressure to move quickly, operate across multiple markets, technologies and devices, while simultaneously meeting rising compliance and security requirements. Paymentology's homegrown, cloud-native platform,Lume, is built for exactly this challenge. It offers real-time processing, global scalability, resilience, and built-in fraud detection, supported by teams with the local, cultural and technical know-how to make it all work.

As demand grows for digital-first, embedded finance and digital asset-linked payment experiences, Paymentology is well positioned to support long-term growth and innovation globally.

Paymentology’s approach is best described as global reach with local depth. Its technology platform supports billions of transactions with no discernible downtime, but what really makes the company stand out is the regional expertise behind the technology.

A key differentiator is the payments expertise built across Paymentology's regional teams, with people who understand local regulation, behaviours, consumer rituals and market dynamics. By combining advanced technology with deep local understanding, Paymentology helps its clients build the momentum they need to grow with confidence in every market they serve.

That means helping clients build payment products that truly fit the markets they serve: accessible, compliant and designed around the way people actually pay, save and move money.

Across many emerging markets, this also means opening up access to the digital financial system for people who have historically been underserved. Creating that kind of real-world impact for cardholders is central to Paymentology’s purpose, and to the unstoppable growth it helps clients unlock.

“Apis has known Paymentology for many years, giving them a strong understanding of our business, our market and the opportunity ahead. Their deep sector expertise and global perspective make them a valuable partner as we continue to help clients scale smarter, expand globally and build growth that lasts. We’re excited to strengthen that relationship as we enter our next phase of growth.”
