Travelling is my favourite hobby. I enjoy the opportunity to embrace new cultures when I travel, make new friends, learn the history of places visited and experience new cuisines. When I travel, I like to ‘do as the locals do’. Meeting with people from other culture allows me to see the world from a different perspective and broadens my mind. There is a quote by Saint Augustine - “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page”
What is your favourite book/movie? And why?
My favourite book is Start–up Nation by Dan Senor and Saul Singer. This book talks about social, cultural and individual factors that make Israel an entrepreneurial center. I am truly fascinated with how a nation with limited resources and surrounded by unfriendly neighbours could produce so many successful start-up companies.
What do you like best about Apis?
The social impact angle is what I like best about Apis. Apis supports innovative Financial Services in Growth Markets by providing not only capital but also strategic and operational expertise. Increasing adoption and accessibility of smartphone and mobile internet in the Growth Markets will transform the Financial Services sector, promoting financial inclusion and improving the lives of local communities.
How would your background prepare you for a role at Apis?
For a large part of my working career, I have worked with local entrepreneurs in the Growth Markets in Southeast Asia. Cultural awareness and sensitivity are extremely important when doing business in these markets. Cultural sensitivity is not only about speaking and writing the language but understanding the local customs, communication & management styles and business practices. It is important to keep an open mind and be respectful of the differences to successfully build trusted relationships in these markets.
