GHL and GrabPay enables e-wallet convenience in the Philippines

Manila, Philippines. GHL Systems Berhad (“GHL”) is pleased to announce that its wholly owned subsidiary, GHL Systems Philippines, Inc. (GHL PH) has recently commenced enabling payments via GrabPay at its Philippine merchants and businesses. GrabPay is the everyday mobile wallet of Southeast Asia’s leading super app, Grab. GrabPay is the largest in the region, with six e-money licenses in Southeast Asia. In the Philippines, GrabPay can be used to pay for thousands of online and offline merchants, and Grab services.

The deployment of GrabPay acceptance will commence with businesses under the GHL umbrella which currently total 86,000 merchant touchpoints across the country as at end June 2019. The targeted businesses include convenience stores, petrol stations, grocery chains and food & beverage outlets which has high volume and at high visibility locations such as the central business district, the international airports and the major cities.

The implementation going forward will involve both static QR cards (where consumers scan the merchant) as well as merchants using scanners to capture consumer’s GrabPay QR on the latter’s smartphones.

Both GHL and GrabPay are looking to target enabling 500 merchants to be able to accept GrabPay by end 2019.

Mr Danny Leong, GHL Group CEO said “We are glad to add another brand to our growing list of e-payment acceptance to our merchant network in enabling GrabPay which will offer more choices to merchants and consumers alike. E-wallets are fast becoming an option to Filipino consumers, increasingly gaining popularity amongst the young and unbanked segment. We are excited about working with GrabPay in the Philippines and across our other ASEAN market in moving towards a cashless society”

“We are thankful to GHL Group for enabling consumers to use GrabPay for in-store transactions in 500 merchants nationwide by the end of the year. This partnership aligns with our mission to grow digital payments in the country and allows Filipinos to reap the advantage of the digital economy,” said Jonny Bates, Head of GrabPay Philippines. “With the help of partners like GHL Group, we are building an ecosystem of connected services that bring better value and greater convenience to Filipinos,” added Bates.
